I love this time of year, as a former teacher my love for all things school runs deep. The supplies, new shoes, and routines make my heart sing! What about you? It feels like January to me in a lot of ways. New year, new schedule. I’m ready to set intentions for the last few months of 2021. Who is with me??
My daughter is starting KINDERGARTEN this year! It’s very bittersweet for me. Everyone tells you it goes by quickly, but you truly don’t understand until you hit a milestone moment like this.

Her uniforms are mostly from Land’s End. Do you have kids in school? When your kids wear certain clothes all the time, it’s best to buy thicker fabric that washes well. Other high quality clothing stores I recommend are Primary.com and HannaAndersson.com
The backpack, water bottle and lunchbox are from Pottery Barn Kids. The quality of their backpack is incredible and will last years to come! My daughter chose a purple color and I’ve seen some other kids in the school with the same one! There is an option to personalize for this exact reason. I didn’t choose this because I’m hoping this backpack will be passed down to her sister.
First Day Poem:
After I dropped my daughter at the door, the school hosted a small breakfast for the Kindergarten parents. They gave us a little poem wrapped around a tissue pouch. How sweet is that?? I definitely started crying while reading it. I know she will have a wonderful year and I pray she can have a semi-normal school experience.
The First Day
We gave you a little wink and smile as you enter our school today.
For we know how hard it is to leave and know your child must stay.
You’ve been with your child for five years now and have been a loving guide, but now alas, the time has come to leave your child at the teacher’s side.
Just know that as you drive away while tears down your cheeks may flow, we’ll love your child as our own and help your child learn and grow.
For as a parent, we too know how quickly the years do pass, and not long ago it was my turn to take my child to class.
So please put your mind at ease and cry those tears no more. For we will love each and every one when you leave your child at our door.
