New Lettering Challenge- May 2020
Hi friends!
We’ve started a new lettering challenge on Instagram this month, and want you to join us! This months challenge is called Spring the Letters hosted by myself, Jessica from @letters_from_jessica and Andrea from @lettersbyandre
After a long winter… we are ready to focus on springtime, encouragement, and growth. I can’t think of a more perfect theme for this month! This challenge we will have a new prompt every four days.
Here are the rules:
Post your work using the hashtag #springtheletters … you can letter all of them or whichever ones you choose! That’s it!
Also, make sure you tag us in your posts on Instagram for a chance to be featured on our stories each week! We are here to cheer each other on and encourage one another!
Save the picture below and let’s spring the letters together this month!
Are you new to lettering challenges? Below is a list of frequently asked questions all about challenges for your reference!
FAQ on Lettering Challenges:
- How does a lettering challenge work?
Generally, you save the photo on your phone and hand-letter the prompts. Some challenges are every single day, others give you a few days per prompt. Get creative when you can and post your lettering on a coordinating day! Be sure to tag the hosts and follow the hashtag of the challenge on Instagram. Did you know you can follow hashtags on Instagram and not just people? This way you can see others who have joined in the same challenge, and comment with an encouraging note. It will spark some inspiration as well!
- What pens do I need to use?
You can use anything you have! There are no rules for the types of pens, pencils, or markers. Make sure you are the one forming the letters yourself, that it!
- Can I use my iPad?
Yes of course! All forms of lettering are encouraged. You should use what you have, or what you want to get better at! This challenge is to help you improve your skills- whatever that may be!
- Do I have to letter every single prompt?
Absolutely not! You join in when you can. When a lettering challenge interests you, it’s a sign you want to improve while connecting with others so do your best to participate as much as you can! (Special note: in this months lettering challenge we are hosting a giveaway that does require a specific number of prompts to be completed in order for you to have a chance to win)
- What is the point of joining in?
I’ve talked about the benefits of lettering challenges in this blog post. Be sure to check it out, especially if you are newer to the online hand-lettering community. Joining in can be super helpful to you. It will spark inspiration, connect you with other lettering artists, and a challenge all at the same time! What could be better?!
- Do I have to be “good at lettering” to join?
No! Newbies this is for you. You might think… “I’m not good enough” or “my work doesn’t compare to others” but this is such a lie! The only way to improve is to practice. Might as well be practicing with others who will lift you up and cheer you on. You will meet new friends as well!
