Just Jennie // Summer 2020
Summer 2020
Welcome to the second edition of Just Jennie. In this series, I take a break from lettering content and share the other parts of my life! My goal is to write a “Just Jennie” post once a season.
I figure this little series could be a place for you to get to know me better. It’s a spot for us to catch-up and talk as friends! I’ll start sharing what’s happened in my business this past season, my recent purchases, and of course any big life updates.
Grab a cup of coffee or your favorite drink, and let’s jump right in!
Life Updates:
Well here is a big one… I had a baby boy in June. Christian Scott is here! He came right on his due date, and we are all so in love. It was different having a baby during this global pandemic, but with my mask on, we welcomed a healthy baby boy into the world. I am beyond thankful.
My daughters love having a real-life baby in the house. Let’s just say Christian has three mommies! Ha! My family has been a huge help, I couldn’t do it without them. Also, given the state of the world right now, people have been very careful around us and I really appreciate it. Life is precious and it’s wonderful to be surrounded by people who care. Having three kids around all day is no joke! I am nursing exclusively and doing my best to juggle it all.
Shortly after, we were able to have newborn pictures taken. Check some of them out below:
Recent Purchases:
I wanted to share some artwork I’ve been able to find on Etsy!! Here are pictures of our family room and the nursery. I am thrilled with these purchases and amazed at the quality. As an Etsy seller myself, I try to shop small because I know how encouraged I am when someone buys my product. It’s the best feeling ever! I want to lift up others who have small shops, especially during this time.
I am in love with the prints above our couch! You can find the shop I ordered those from right here. The seller was wonderful to work with! I printed these through Walmart and picked up the frames from Michaels.
In the nursery, I also purchased the vintage car prints from Etsy. You can find that shop right here! Again, the frames are from Michaels. I’ve also seen some great options at Target as well! Then, we received the name sign above my son’s crib as a gift. It is gorgeous! Check out Etsy for signs just like this one! Be sure to always check Etsy when you are looking to shop. It’s full of wonderful high-quality items!
Jennie’s Letters News:
Unfortunately, Jennie’s Letters has taken a back seat during this time. While being full-time at home allows me the freedom to have a creative hobby, it has been hard to balance everything recently. To be honest I find myself in a creative rut as well. If I ever get all the babies asleep at the same time, when I begin to work, I find myself coming up blank. This happens during nap time when I feel an overwhelming pressure to produce something in the 30-40 minutes of freedom I have.
To fight off this rut, instead of creating new pieces, I’ve been taking this time to work on other things. I am focusing on lettering drills, practicing some procreate skills, and I’ve been re-visiting the online classes I’ve taken in the past. This helps me to stay fresh, and continue to build my skills without the pressure of creating. I’ve said this many times before, but practicing brush strokes or the alphabet in different styles is enjoyable and relaxing for me! It’s a tip for beginners that I highly recommend. Read my tips for beginner’s posts here.
As I do get back into lettering, my focus is on new lettering practice pages to sell on Etsy. This is helping me with my creativity block. Stay tuned for some more coming soon! And as always, If you are looking for a particular practice page, please email me or send me a DM on Instagram! I love hearing from you!
Thank you for tuning in to this shorter update. As I get back to lettering, there will be more coming soon! I appreciate your patience during this time. As I type this I know I am talking to myself as well. Keep lettering, finding new ideas, and pursuing your hobby. Life is all about seasons, maybe you are like me and lettering has taken a back seat recently. Don’t be discouraged because it’s never too late to start (or in my case) start-up again.
Right now I’m prioritizing my young babies and I won’t look back and regret it. While I wish I could do it all, I need to take care of myself and my family first.
Thank you for your understanding and I look forward to lettering together again soon!
